Beyond the First Cut

What to do if you’re unhappy

If you’re considering revision plastic surgery, it’s essential to understand these key points:

Allow Time for Healing

Swelling can obscure final results. Waiting until you're fully healed (typically 6 to 12 months) ensures any revision addresses permanent issues, not temporary swelling.

Addressing Concerns After Any Plastic Surgery

Cosmetic surgery results can sometimes fall short of expectations. This is especially the case when patients have surgery done overseas or by non-plastic surgeons. Here at The Aesthetic Centers, we understand this can be frustrating. If you're unhappy with the outcome of your previous plastic surgery procedure, feel free to schedule a consultation. We can discuss your concerns and explore potential solutions, including revision surgery.

Cost Considerations

The cost of revision surgery varies depending on the complexity of your case. We'll provide a personalized treatment plan and cost estimate during a consultation. We also offer financing options to help make revision surgery more accessible.

Seek Experienced Help

Choose a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive revision plastic surgery experience. Dr.Agha can assess your unique needs and discuss personalized revision options to achieve your desired outcome.

Why Revision Surgery is on the Rise

What are the benefits of Revision Plastic Surgery?

The growing popularity of cosmetic surgery naturally leads to increased revision procedures.

This is due to a variety of reasons such as:

  • Patients seeking plastic surgery overseas. While there are many qualified plastic surgeons overseas, their level of training and qualification will obviously not be the same as those trained in the USA.
  • Lack of attention to recovery. Recovery after a plastic surgery procedure is as important as the surgery itself. If you travel back home too early after your surgery, adverse results and complications such as openings can result.
  • Surgical centers overseas may or may not be accredited. Clearly, they do not have the same accreditation that is necessary for US-based ambulatory surgery centers.
  • There is no law preventing non-plastic surgeons from calling themselves plastic surgeons or performing plastic surgery in the USA. Thus any licensed physician can perform plastic surgery whether they have or have not been trained. With the low insurance reimbursements, many physicians are turning to cosmetic surgery to supplement their practice. Board-certified plastic surgeons must complete 6 years of residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery and then pass written and oral Board examinations that are conducted by the American Board of Plastic Surgeons. On the other hand, physicians who wish to do cosmetic surgery can take 6 months of cosmetic surgery training and call themselves cosmetic surgeons. Obviously, 6 years of training is very different from 6 months of training.

Know your qualifications

  • US-trained plastic surgeons complete 6 years of residency in Plastic, Reconstructive, and Microsurgery.
  • The American Board of Plastic Surgery is the only recognized Board in Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery
  • The American Society of Plastic Surgeons only recognizes Board-Certified Plastic Surgeons
  • The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons is an organization for Board-certified Plastic Surgeons that specialize in cosmetic and Aesthetic Surgery
  • The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons is an international organization for Board-certified Plastic Surgeons that specializes in cosmetic and Aesthetic Surgery
When to Consider Revision Plastic Surgery

Your Revision Plastic Surgery Procedures

While plastic surgery aims to enhance your appearance, sometimes results may fall short of expectations. Here at The Aesthetic Centers, we understand the desire for optimal outcomes. Dr. Siamak Agha, MD, PhD, FACS, our board-certified plastic surgeon, specializes in revision surgery to address concerns arising from previous procedures. A few examples include:

Breast Reconstruction Revision

As an expert in breast surgery, Dr. Agha performs many breast reconstruction revisions. These can be small and simple or complete breast reconstruction redos. Patients often present to Dr. Agha happy to have chest fullness that resembles breasts. But, they commonly indicate that they wish to have breasts that are more symmetrical, or rounder and perkier. While Breast reconstruction surgery is oftentimes looked upon as a functional procedure, secondary breast reconstruction is about enhancing the aesthetic results of a previous reconstruction or completing the breast reconstruction with the creation of nipples and areola.

Revision Arm Lift

Dr. Agha has performed many arm lift revisions to remove additional skin and fat, and to correct poor scars or to create symmetry between the arms. These procedures are much harder than a primary arm lift and it may not be possible to excise all of the previous arm lift scar at times.

Revision Inner Thigh Lift

Dr. Agha has performed many inner thigh lift revisions in the last few years. With the increased popularity of this procedure, more patients have presented to us with unhappy inner thigh lift scars. Oftentimes, the inner thigh lift scar is placed incorrectly on the upper inner thigh than in the groin crease, or the inner thigh scar has migrated on the thigh resulting in labial spreading. The latter causes vaginal opening and dryness. Inner thigh lift revision is a super demanding, complex, and high-risk procedure that requires an expert who does these procedures on a routine basis.

Revision Lower Body Lift

As an expert in body lift surgery, Dr. Agha performs about 4-5 lower body lift redos every year. Patients present with asymmetrical scars, loose remaining skin, thighs that are not lifted, and remaining buttocks skin that requires another butt lift. Dr. Agha oftentimes will have to redo many or all the components of the lower body lift again.
