What Is A Scar Newport Beach, CA

What Is a Scar?

Sat Aug 28 2021

A scar is a growth of tissue marking the spot where skin has healed after an injury, surgery, or trauma. Scarring is part of the body’s natural healing process after tissue is damaged. When the skin is wounded, the tissues break, which causes a protein called collagen to be released. Collagen builds up where the tissue is damaged, helping to heal and strengthen the wound.

In the United States, nearly 50-80 million new scars are produced by surgery, and many more result from accidents. Scar tissue is a collection of cells and connective tissues such as collagen that covers the site of the injury. They form because they seal an opening in the skin more quickly than normal skin could grow. If youre a slow healer, you may bleed which can lead to an infection. Thus, our bodies scar to cover the wound quickly and prevent infection or excess bleeding. Scars can result from accidents, burns, surgery, acne and trauma to an area.
